For the third time in his career, Jerry Hollendorfer equaled the Northern California record for most victories by a trainer on a single card when he saddled five winners Wednesday at Bay Meadows.Hollendorfer scored with A Reel Tizzy ($6.60) in the second race, Shadow Raider ($9.40) in the third, High Liability ($5.40) in the fourth, My Ruby Charm ($4.20) in the sixth and Lucky Sabre ($12.60) in the seventh.Hollendorfer had a chance to break the record. His 4-year-old gelding Moon Mullins finished third in the eighth and final race on the card."Everything fell in place today and we got lucky," said Hollendorfer. "We didn't win the last race but we didn't have any excuses."The first trainer to win five races on a single card in Northern California was Walter Greenman, who accomplished the feat on Nov. 25, 1970, at Bay Meadows. Ace Gibson won five races on Feb. 24, 1971 at Golden Gate Fields.Twenty-six years would pass before another trainer matched the accomplishment when Hollendorfer bagged five on May 1, 1996, at Golden Gate Fields. Less than nine months later Hollendorfer accomplished the feat again, winning five races on Jan. 23, 1997, at Bay Meadows.
Hollendorfer, with more than 4,000 career victories, is Northern California's all-time leading trainer and ranks sixth in wins on the all-time list. He currently tops the trainer standings at the Bay Meadows spring meeting with 47 victories.
