Rome-based Groom Tesse kicked away from the field in the final furlong to register a 2 1/2-length victory over German stayer Dayano in Sunday's Derby Italiano (Ity-I) at the Campannelle.Under jockey Dario Vargiu, the 10-1 shot Groom Tesse settled mid-pack behind a moderate pace for most of the journey, making his challenge on the outside more than a furlong from home. The time was 2:27.68 on good going over the 1 1/2-mile turf course.Groom Tesse swept by Whilly, Dayano and favored Privy Seal to win easily.British raider Privy Seal was third, finishing five lengths behind the winner.
