Following the 10th and final race at Arlington Park on Saturday, the Arlington Park tote board, located in the infield, caught fire. All of the horses from the last race were off the racetrack and most of the patrons had left the building when smoke was detected by a security officer in the winner's circle at approximately 5:45 p.m. There was no evacuation and there were no injuries. The Arlington Heights Fire and Police Departments responded and the fire was extinguished. Racing will resume as scheduled on Sunday, with the first post time scheduled for 1 p.m. Arlington Park's in-house television and giant screen television in the infield will be used to disseminate the wagering, odds, results and prices information normally displayed on the tote board, which will not be operational.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Arlington Heights Fire Department.
