The Tattersalls July Sale concluded Thursday with records for turnover, average, and median prices. The final session saw 76 lots sold for 1,122,700 guineas. The three-day totals were 367 lots sold for 5,234,000 guineas, a rise of 62% on last year's turnover and 44% higher than the previous record set in 2002. The average of 14,262 guineas and median of 8,000 guineas both represented new records and rises of 26% and 33% on last year's results.
Juddmonte Farmsê consignment highlighted the final session, with all 25 lots offered selling, for a gross of 546,300 guineas. The 3-year-old filly Angry Bark brought the top price of 75,000 guineas. Interest in the Woodman filly was strong from the start ,with Australian breeder Michael Jacobs and New Zealand Bloodstock's John Cameron both signaling their intent before the Coolmore pair of Kevin Buckley and Michael Kirwan joined the fray. Gordian Troeller, who purchased recent grade I American Oaks victor Ticker Tape at the Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale, also entered proceedings, as did Highflyer Bloodstock's David Minton. In the end it was Minton who secured the daughter of group winner Polemi on behalf of an English breeder.
