Frankie Dettori guided Kentucky-bred Shot To Fame to a head victory over pacesetter Gateman in the Michael Page International Silver Trophy Stakes (Eng-III) at Ascot Saturday.The 5-year-old bay Quest for Fame gelding bred by Eric Puerari, edged ahead of his rival in the final furlong of the one-mile test, but had to battle to the wire to get the victory. Trainer Peter Harris instructed Dettori to hold off on his challenge after Gateman had gotten the better of Shot To Fame in his previous start."We might go to Group 2 next time," the trainer told Racing Post. "This was our first run in group company so it was a question today of seeing how we fared."Shot to Fame was never far off the pace while tracking Gateman in third place.Dettori noted, "He dug deep, but the other one was coming back. I'm glad the line was there." Shot to Fame, owned by the The Conquistadors, was sent off at odds of 6-1,completing the good to soft round in 1:42.49.
