Exciting Story Euthanized at Lane's End Texas

Exciting Story, who was a Canadian champion at two (1999) and won the Met Mile (gr. I) at four, was euthanized recently at Will Farish's Lane's End Texas farm, where he stood at stud.

The 7-year-old stallion was suffering from a degenerative joint condition that necessitated his being euthanized.

Exciting Story was bred in Florida by Harry Mangurian and raced for his Mockingbird Farm. He was trained by Mark Casse. He won seven of 25 starts and earned $911,270, winning stakes at two, three and four.

Having speed and a speed pedigree -- being by Diablo and out of the Valid Appeal mare Appealing Story -- Exciting Story was the type of stallion sought after to stand in Florida. Farish, who also owns Lane's End Farm near Versailles, Ky., bought him and he entered stud at the farm near Hempstead, Texas, in 2003.

His first year, Exciting Story was bred to 39 mares. He has 26 named 2-year-olds. He has not had any starters to date. This year, because of his condition, he was bred to a limited number of mares.
