This will mark the first Breeders' Cup to be run in New Jersey, and will be the third new venue for the World Thoroughbred Championships in six years. Arlington Park outside Chicago hosted the event for the first time in 2002, and Lone Star Park near Dallas, Texas, another new venue, will be the site this year. The 2005 edition is slated for Belmont Park in New York, with the 2006 running scheduled for the refurbished Churchill Downs in Louisville.
Breeders' Cup Limited and the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority have scheduled a press conference Sunday, Aug. 8 at which they are expected to announce that the 2007 Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships will be run at Monmouth Park.The announcement, to come on Haskell day, the biggest day on New Jersey's racing calendar, will be attended by New Jersey Gov. James McGreevey, Breeders' Cup Limited president D.G. Van Clief, Jr., New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority president and CEO George Zoffinger, and NJSEA senior vice president Bruce Garland.
