Last year 144 horses sold during the select session grossed $6,367,000 and averaged $44,215. The median price was $35,000. The buy-back rate was 25.8%.The open sessions grossed $6,486,200 when 680 yearlings were sold for an average of $9,539. The median was $6,000.
The outlook looks sunny for the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's August yearling sale, which begins with a select session on Monday, Aug. 23, at the OBS sale grounds. The sale continues through Aug. 26. with all sessions beginning at 11 a.m."The number of horses catalogued is similar to past two years and we are very excited to get it underway," said Tom Ventura OBS general manager and director of sales. "I hope we move forward over last year where we had a very solid sale and there is no indication of any slow down in the market."There are 242 hips catalogued for the opening session. "The are some horses by promising young stallions such as Yes It's True and Tiger Ridge who have gotten off to a good start are previous yearling auctions this year. With the freshman stallions and some of the older stallion, I expect this to be a very good sale," Ventura said.
