Thoroughbred Charities of America raised $65,000 at its inaugural golf tournament Aug. 17 at the Saratoga National Golf Club in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. The funds will be distributed to rescue, retirement, research, therapeutic riding, backstretch, and education organizations supported by Thoroughbred Charities of America. "Considering this was our first golf tournament, the event was enjoyable for all and financially very productive," Herb Moelis, president of TCA, said. "The net amount raised of $65,000, although not close to the $1.5 million, which we raised from our Stallion Season Auction, is very significant and very timely. For the fourth consecutive year we have distributed grants of over $1 million to 82 organizations in 24 states but there is still a crying need for funds."
The winner of the tournament was Ken McPeek's foursome, with Roger Horgan, Mohammed Moubarak, and Abraham Moubarak. Second place went to Dennis Brida, Jim Olson, Linc Miller, and Martin Kinsella, with third place going to Shug McGaughey, Freddie Bond, Bob Friese, and Mervin Marks. This year's stallion season auction is set for Dec. 4 at CandyLand Farm in Delaware with a simultaneous auction taking place at Cross Gate Gallery in Lexington.
