Levine Wins Three as Belmont Fall Meet Opens

Trainer Bruce Levine saddled three winners Friday, including Clever Eletrician in the $105,100 General Douglas MacArthur Handicap for New York-breds, to open the Belmont Park fall meeting.

Clever Electrician overcame favored front-runner Top Shoter in the seven-furlong MacArthur. Ridden by Ramon Dominguez, Clever Electrician sat second off Top Shoter, who tried to take advantage of the inside post under jockey John Velazquez to set a pace of :22 3/5; :45 1/5 and 1:08 4/5.

Clever Electrician, a 5-year-old Clever Trick horse who won Saratoga's John Morrissey on August 19, came on for the 1 ½-length victory in 1:21 2/5. Gumpster Stable LLC owns him.

Levine said that Clever Electrician would be pointed for the $125,000 Hudson Handicap for New York-breds at six furlongs on Belmont Park's New York Showcase Day Oct. 23.

After winning the first race of the 33-day meet with Cozy Man ($3.20), Levine later won the seventh race with Bubba Sparks ($14).

Mr. Determined 5 1/4 lengths back in third, followed by Spite the Devil and Beyond Chance. Provincetown was scratched.

Clever Electrician returned $6.30, $2.60 and $2.10. Top Shoter paid $2.60 and $2.10, and Mr. Determined was $2.10 to show.
