Stroll to Roll in Belmont BC

Claiborne Farm's homebred Stroll tops a field of five for the 19th running of the $200,000 Belmont Breeders' Cup (gr. II), one of three stakes set for the track's "Super Saturday" card. Trained by Hall of Famer Bill Mott, the 120-pound highweight will race for the first time since finishing a disappointing sixth in the Manhattan Handicap (gr. I) on Belmont Stakes day. Jockey Cornelio Velasquez will replace the injured Hall of Famer Jerry Bailey, who has been aboard in 10 of the Pulpit colt's 14 races.

"It's unfortunate Jerry will not be able to ride him," said Mott's assistant Leana Willaford. "Mike Luzzi won a race on him last spring, but he's out, too. Cornelio has been riding well for us."

Stroll, has been twice successful at Belmont Park, having secured the Jamaica Handicap (gr. II) last September and an allowance race last May. He has won four graded stakes at 1 1/8 miles, the distance of Saturday's race.

Stroll, will face stiff competition from post 3, where Senor Swinger will be making his first start at Belmont for owners Robert and Beverly Lewis. Trained by Bob Baffert and bred by Bob Ackerman in Kentucky, Senor Swinger finished seventh in the Aug. 14 Arlington Million (gr. IT), after winning the June 27 Arlington Handicap (gr. IIIT), both at 1 1/4 miles.

"He came straight here from the Arlington Million," said Tonja Terranova, who oversees Baffert's horses in New York. "He's a very nice horse. In California, Fairplex is running now, so there was really nothing out there for him."

Fairplex Park has a five-eighths mile dirt oval with no turf course.

Jockey Edgar Prado will ride Senor Swinger for the first time since January of last year. The colt will carry 117 pounds.

Hotstufanthensome, B.A. Way, and Gulf Approval will round out the field of 3-year-olds and up. Gygistar and Colita were entered for the main track only.

The Floral Park, Belmont Breeders' Cup, and the Jerome will go, respectively, as races seven, eight and nine on the 10-race live card. The Floral Park (4:08 p.m. post time) will kick off a $400,000 guaranteed Pick 4 on races seven through ten.
