Auction of Moneighs on eBay to Benefit ReRun

ReRun, Inc., the Kentucky-based horse adoption program, is again conducting a fund-raiser in which Moneighs will be offered at auction on eBay.

Moneighs are colorful, abstract paintings created by famous racehorses. The horses paint with non-toxic paints on archival paper, and the works are embossed with the Moneigh trademark and include a lock of the horse's mane. Each Moneigh comes with a photograph of the horse either creating the art or posing with their finished piece.

Included among the Moneieghs that will be offered on eBay between Oct. 12 and Dec. 1 are works by Smarty Jones, Silver Charm, Point Given, Funny Cide, and Tiznow , among others. The Moneigh by Kentucky Derby (gr. I) and Preakness (gr. I) winner Funny Cide will include a halter worn by the dual classic winner.

"When Moneighs have been offered at private auctions in Lexington, Kentucky and Saratoga Springs, New York, some brought upwards of $5,000 with an average of $1,000," explained Shon Wylie, executive director of ReRun. "When the Smarty Jones Moneigh sold for $2,000, we received numerous requests from race fans across the country asking us to make these one-of-a-kind pieces available to everyone, not just a select few. That's what we are attempting to do with the eBay auction."

Horses whose art will be auctioned during the first offering on Oct. 12 are Distorted Humor  and Commendable. During the week leading up to the Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships Oct. 30, Moneighs by Wild Again, winner of the first Breeders' Cup Classic (gr. I) in 1984, Sprint (gr. I) winner Kona Gold, and Funny Cide, a contender for this year's Classic – Powered by Dodge, will be offered on eBay.

Wylie said ReRun can also arrange for a commissioned painting by an owner's own horse or request a gift certificate for that would allow the recipient to be present while their horse creates a work of art.
