Aussie Sire Platinum Scissors Having Fertility Problems

By Ric Chapman

In what appears to be a devastating blow to Arrowfield Stud, its young sire Platinum Scissors (Danehill -- Shantha's Choice) at this point in time appears to be having fertility problems.

Scans of the highly anticipated young sire's first 33 mares covered suggest only five are in foal. Platinum Scissors retired to Arrowfield this year having won at group I level, amid enormous interest.

He is a full brother to Australia's latest hotter than hot boom sire Redoute's Choice.

Arrowfield spokesman Frank Pollio, clearly upset by the preliminary results, admitted it does appear as though Platinum Scissors is suffering from sub-fertility problems.

Arrowfield Stud is run by John Messara, who was the man who originally brought Danehill to Australia.

Platinum Scissors is insured against fertility problems.
