Nakatani to Ride in All 8 Breeders' Cup Races

(from Oak Tree at Santa Anita notes)
Corey Nakatani, who celebrated his 34th birthday Oct. 21, has been booked to ride in all eight Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championship races Oct. 30 at Lone Star Park.

Nakatani would equal the record of most Breeders' Cup mounts in a single day established by Jerry Bailey in 1999 and equaled by the Hall of Fame rider in 2000 and 2001. John Velazquez also had eight mounts in the 2002 and 2003 editions. There were only seven Breeders' Cup races prior to 1999.

"This is the most I've ever ridden in a Breeders' Cup," Nakatani said. "Normally my horses run pretty good but I've never had the opportunity in the past that I have this year. I'm not concerned about the weather or the track conditions. It doesn't matter. We all have to run over the same track."

Nakatani's mounts, booked by agent Nick Cosato: Roman Ruler in the Juvenile; Sweet Catomine in the Juvenile Fillies; Elloluv in Distaff; Dynever in the Classic; Sarafan in the Turf; Megahertz in the Filly & Mare Turf; Pt's Grey Eagle in the Sprint; and Blackdoun in the Mile.

The Covina native has five Breeders' Cup victories to his credit: Jewel Princess (1996 Distaff), Silic (1999 Mile), Lit de Justice (1996 Sprint), Elmhurst (1997 Sprint) and Reraise (1998 Sprint).
