Hendrix Headlines Bay Meadows Derby

J. Paul Reddam's Hendrix, third behind Greek Sun in the Oak Tree Derby (gr. IIT) nearly three weeks ago, heads a field of eight 3-year-olds entered for Saturday's $100,000 Bay Meadows Derby (gr. IIIT) on the grass.

Corey Nakatani will travel north to take over the ride on the $310,000 Kentucky-bred bay son of Sultry Song from David Flores in the 1 1/8-mile event. Craig Dollase trains Hendrix, who has just a maiden win in seven outings. Nakatani rode the colt in his first two starts.

Hendrix was 56-1 to win the Oak Tree Derby while finishing only 1 3/4 lengths behind the heavily favored Greek Sun, who collared Laura's Lucky Boy in mid-stretch for a three-quarters of a length victory. A game Hendrix nosed out Imperialism for the show spot.

On the Acorn, who finished seventh in the Oak Tree Derby, also is entered in the Bay Meadows Derby. Seeking his first stakes victory as well, the British-bred son of Inchinor is trained by James Cassidy and will be ridden by Ron Warren Jr.
