Leading sires Storm Cat and A.P. Indy are among dozens of stallions whose seasons will be auctioned during a Dec. 3 event to raise money for KEEP -- the Kentucky Equine Education Project. The auction will take place at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Lexington, Ky.
"We're delighted that so many owners, breeders and syndicate managers have been so generous by donating stallion seasons for most of the greatest horses in Kentucky," said Claria Horn Shadwick, executive director of KEEP. "Our slogan to promote the value of the equine industry is 'horses work for Kentucky.' The commitment on the part of the donors demonstrates another way that work continues."
Breeding seasons will be sold for most of the top stallions among all breeds of horses during the event, with both silent and live auctions. A partial list includes Storm Cat, A.P. Indy, Kingmambo, Fusaichi Pegasus , Giant's Causeway , Vindication, Distorted Humor , El Prado, Awesome Again , Unbridled's Songwithin the Thoroughbred industry. The list is still being compiled for stallions in all breeds.
"The money that is raised from the auction will be used to continue our educational initiative across the state," said Shadwick. "We want every county to understand the role of the horse in our history, but more importantly, in our economic future. During the next several years, thousands of acres of Kentucky farmland will be available for agricultural alternatives to tobacco. Horses can help fill that void. That's another reason why so many industry groups representing all types of breeds are lining up behind this important auction and educational effort."
