Churchill Simulcast Network to Offer 2005 Dubai Carnival of Racing

The Churchill Downs Simulcast Network' announced Friday it is partnering with the Dubai Racing Club to serve as the North and South American host of the 2005 Dubai Carnival of Racing.

The carnival includes 11 days of racing from the Nad Al Sheba Racecourse in Dubai, culminating March 26 with the Dubai World Cup Day and the richest event in racing, the $6 million Dubai World Cup (UAE-I). First post for the Dubai Carnival of Racing will be approximately 10:30 a.m. ET daily, except on World Cup Day, when first post is approximately 9 a.m. ET.

Race dates for the Carnival of Racing are Jan. 20 and 27; Feb. 3, 10, 11, 17, 24 and 25; and March 5, 10 and 26.

"Racing is an international sport, and simulcasting now allows us to bring an excellent product such as the Dubai Carnival to customers in the Western Hemisphere," said Karl Schmitt, president of CDSN. "We are excited to serveas simulcast host for this exciting series, and believe the carnival's quality of racing and early start times in North and South America make this product very appealing to our race fans."

Total purses on Dubai World Cup Day will exceed $15 million, making it the richest single day in racing. U.S. horseplayers wagered more than $2.4 million on the 2004 Dubai World Cup, won by Pleasantly Perfect in a stretch dual with Medaglia d'Oro.

Wagering on the 2005 Dubai Carnival of Racing will be co-mingled through Phumelela's (South Africa) AmTote operation in Johannesburg.
