Shadow Cast Back at Fair Grounds, Wins Pago Hop

Shadow Cast picked up right where she left off earlier this year at Fair Grounds, returning to capture the $60,000 Pago Hop Stakes for 3-year-old fillies over the Stall-Wilson turf course Saturday.

Trained by Neil Howard, Shadow Cast completed one mile on a course rated as good in 1:37.83.

Ridden by five-time Fair Grounds leading jockey Robby Albarado, Shadow Cast, who captured the Silverbulletday (gr. II) on the dirt in February, moved into striking range as they rounded the turn, circled with a four-wide bid and took command in the stretch.

Sister Swank, the 9-5 favorite, split horses and also began to close nicely, but could not match strides with Shadow Cast. The 3-year-old daughter of Smart Strike prevailed by a neck over a fast-closing Code of Ethics. Sister Swank, who finished third behind Shadow Cast in the Silverbulletday, held the show spot again.

Bonanza Jellybean dashed to a clear lead down the backstretch and into the far turn through a quick six furlongs in 1:13.37.

Shadow Cast paid $20.60 in posting her fifth win in 14 lifetime starts, boosting her earnings to $297,485 for owner/breeder William Farish, Jr.
