Bank Audit Adds Interborough to Win Column

Robert J. Amendola's Bank Audit drew off from front-running High Peaks to win the $85,775 Interborough Handicap for fillies and mare by 5 1/2 lengths Saturday at Aqueduct.

Before a holiday crowd of 14,150 taking advantage of an unseasonably warm and sunny afternoon, Bank Audit won for the third straight time, finishing in a time of 1:10 2/5 for the six furlongs on a fast track. Mariakel got up in the final strides to snatch the place by a head from Belong to Sea.

High Peaks faded to be fifth behind fourth-place finisher Lavender Lass.

A just-turned-4-year-old Virginia-bred daughter of Wild Rush, Bank Audit now has three wins and two seconds in six starts on Aqueduct's inner dirt track.

"She's turned the corner, big time," said winning trainer Greg Martin. "She'll do anything you want her to. She was laying right up there today. She just really played with them."

Winning jockey Norberto Arroyo Jr. kept the tractable filly off of High Peaks, who cut fractions of :23 3/5; :47 1/5 and :58 4/5, then set her down for the stretch run.

Bank Audit earned $51,465 and returned $4.90, $3.00 and $2.40. Mariakel paid $6.70 and $3.70, and Belong to Sea was $3.60.
