Grade I Winner Mayo On the Side Retired

Mayo On the Side, who beat Horse of the Year Azeri in winning the 2004 Humana Distaff Handicap (gr. I), has been retired from racing and is booked to Eclipse Award sprint finalist Speightstown .

Bred by Robert Lothenbach, 6-year-old Mayo On the Side won seven of 28 races and earned $642,366 for Lothenbach Stables. Trained by Carl Nafzger, Mayo On the Side not only won the Humana Distaff at Churchill Downs, but also the Doubledogdare Stakes at Keeneland in her previous start. She was stakes-placed six times, five in graded events, including the 2004 Overbrook Spinster Stakes (gr. I).

A daughter of French Deputy, Mayo On the Side is out of the Slew o' Gold mare Slewveau, who is a half-sister to three stakes winners, including the dam of Canadian champion Honky Tonk Tune. Second dam is German champion Istria.
