Sweet Catomine Set to Go, Rain or Shine

(from Santa Anita report)
Sweet Catomine, the 2004 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (gr. I) champion, makes her much-anticipated 3-year-old debut in Sunday's $100,000 Santa Ysabel Stakes (gr. III) at 1 1/16 miles for 3-year-old fillies at Santa Anita.

Despite inclement weather and the likelihood of an "off" track, trainer Julio Canani said the daughter of Storm Cat owned by Mr. and Mrs. Martin Wygod will run.

Sweet Catomine will be reunited with jockey David Flores, who rode the Kentucky-bred bay filly to a second-place finish in her debut at Del Mar July 31. Corey Nakatani, who was aboard in the Juvenile Fillies and for a four-length victory in the Oak Leaf Stakes (gr. II) Oct. 2, presently is serving a 30-day suspension.

Sweet Catomine has been entered with Revealed, a daughter of Old Trieste also owned by the Wygods. The chestnut filly won her debut race at odds of 10-1 at Hollywood Park Nov. 21.

Quiet Honor, an impressive five-length winner in her maiden victory Oct. 10, makes her first attempt around two turns for trainer Paula Capestro.

Sweet Catomine has a 3-1-0 record from four starts with earnings of $799,800.

Sunday's supporting feature is the $100,000 San Miguel Stakes for 3-year-olds at six furlongs.

So Long Birdie is a solid candidate in the San Miguel off his 11-length maiden victory at Hollywood last Dec. 19. Craig Dollase claimed the Florida-bred son of Pioneering for $40,000 out of his first start last May 26 when the chestnut colt finished fifth by 14 lengths after a slow start.

The San Miguel was previously a grade III event.
