A.P. Adventure Stands Out in El Encino

A.P. Adventure heads a field of eight entered for Sunday's $150,000 El Encino Stakes (gr. II) for 4-year-old fillies at Santa Anita Park.

The El Encino Stakes, the seventh race on the card, is the second leg of the prestigious La Canada series and will be contested at 1 1/16 miles. The race drew eight entries.

A.P. Adventure, who won the Santa Ysabel (gr. III) and Las Virgenes (gr. I) last year, is a $425,000 daughter of A.P. Indy. She finished third in the Bayakoa Handicap at (gr. II) Hollywood Park in her most recent start one month ago and has been working rapidly for the El Encino.

Trained by Wally Dollase, the Kentucky-bred filly has a 3-0-2 record from six starts with earnings of $295,080 for owners Bob and Beverly Lewis. She has three wins from four starts at Santa Anita, with one third.

Alphabet Kisses, who sprang a 20-1 upset in the seven-furlong La Brea (gr. I), the first leg of the series for fillies foaled in 2001, was not entered in the Encino. La Brea runner-up Bending Strings also passed.

Elusive Diva, who led in the La Brea stretch run before settling for third, returns Sunday with Kent Desormeaux aboard. Elusive Diva won the Railbird (gr. III) at Hollywood Park in May.

Penny's Fortune, a minor stakes winner at Bay Meadows last year, is a $650,000 daughter of Storm Cat.
