Amazing Buy Passes Busanda Tests

(from Aqueduct report)
Amazing Buy made owner Ernie Paragallo look good Sunday when she won the $80,550 Busanda Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at Aqueduct in her first race against winners and over a route of ground.

Paragallo, of Paraneck Stable, stuck his neck out earlier this week when he proclaimed the $350,000 daughter of High Yield "the best filly I ever owned."

Amazing Buy was a distant third in her debut and came back to win by 10 ½ lengths. Both of those starts were at six furlongs on Aqueduct's inner track.

Back on the inner track in freezing temperatures at one mile and 70 yards, Amazing Buy, with Norberto Arroyo aboard, accelerated away from front-runner Dancin on Broadway in the lane and cruised to a 2 ½-length victory in 1:44 2/5 on the fast track.

She returned $2.90, $2.30 and $2.10 as the odds-on favorite, showing a turn of foot that can only benefit her in future races. Kept to the outside flank of Dancin on Broadway through splits of :23 3/5; :48 3/5 and 1:15, she simply took off when jockey Norberto Arroyo Jr. gave her the green light.

"She did exactly what she was supposed to do," said trainer Jennifer Pedersen. "I felt confident that she would rate today. I really like what Norberto did. He educated her, and she got the win at the same time. I was never worried because I saw the hold that he had on her and how easy she was going. I'll take her home, feed her, make sure she is okay in the morning and then we'll figure something out."

Amazing Buy earned $47,970 for the victory.

Pelham Bay ($3.30, $2.30), who carried 120 pounds and spotted Amazing Buy four pounds, nosed Pretty Partisan ($2.40) for the place.
