Seattle Shamus to Oakhurst in Oregon

Seattle Shamus, whose :20.96 is believed to be the fastest opening quarter-mile ever run at Santa Anita, will enter stud at Dr. Jack Root's Oakhurst Thoroughbreds near Newberg, Ore.

A son of Seattle Slew, Seattle Shamus set that ultra-quick fraction in a six-furlong maiden win in one of his three wins from 10 starts. "He is the fastest Seattle Slew there will ever be," said Mickey Taylor, who bred and raced Seattle Shamus with his wife, Karen, and Albert Finney.

The Taylors, members of a partnership that raced Seattle Slew, and Finney have retained an interest in Seattle Shamus, who retired with earnings of $126,880.

"He was a sprinter-type looking horse, well-balanced and sound," said trainer Neil French.

Seattle Shamus, who was produced from the stakes-winning Forty Niner mare Footing, will stand for $2,000.
