Eight Turf Specialists Contest San Marcos

Eight evenly-matched older turf specialists are set to go postward in Saturday's San Marcos Handicap (gr. IIT) at Santa Anita.

Favoritism could fall to T N T Stud's License to Run, a Brazilian import who finished third, only a neck behind winner Pellegrino and runner-up Megahertz, in the Hollywood Turf Cup (gr. IT). The top two finishers from the Turf Cup, which marked License to Run's U. S. debut, did not return in the San Marcos.

Trained by Hall of Famer Bobby Frankel, License to Run has a record of four wins in nine starts, including a group I and a group II triumph in his native country.

Also entered by Frankel is Juddmonte Farms homebred Epicentre, winner of the 2004 Elkhorn Stakes (gr. IIIT) at Keeneland who has not started since finishing eighth in the Manhattan Handicap (gr. IT) at Belmont Park last June 5.
