Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas will be the keynote speaker at the Texas Thoroughbred Association's annual conference and awards banquet as part of the association's 50th anniversary celebration. Lukas, a four-time Eclipse Award winner, is the all-time leader among trainers with earnings of more than $240 million and holds the record for the most Breeders' Cup wins by a trainer with 17. "TTA is most fortunate to have D. Wayne Lukas accept an invitation to be our keynote speaker at the organization's 50th anniversary," said TTA executive director Dave Hooper. "When Wayne speaks, his passion for racing holds his audience in rapt attention. Wayne has longtime ties to the Texas racing industry and no trainer has accomplished more in the history of the Triple Crown and Breeders' Cup than the Hall of Fame trainer."
This year's TTA gala awards banquet, normally held in January, will instead be held June 25 to coincide with the association's 50th anniversary festivities at the Horseshoe Bay Resort Marriott near Austin. The celebration, held June 23-25, will include TTA's annual conference, equine seminars, a life member reception, a '50s sock hop, and a golf tournament. The event will also feature an exhibit displaying Texas racing memorabilia from the past 50 years.
