Shake You Down Seeks Repeat in SM Sprint

Struggling Shake You Down faces 12 rivals in defense of his Sunshine Millions Sprint victory of a year ago Saturday at Santa Anita Park.

Vinery Farms sponsors the $300,000 race for California and Florida breds. Last year's edition, ran at Gulfstream Park, was sponsored by Padua Stables.

The 7-year-old Shake You Down, trained by Scott Lake, won by three lengths and closed out his 2004 with a promising victory in an allowance/claiming race at Pimlico Dec. 8. Prior to that, however, the Florida-bred son Montbrook had lost three straight stakes races by a combined margin of more than 30 lengths.

It won't be easy to get things turned around Saturday against a solid field that includes the California-bred winner of the El Conejo Stakes (gr. III) at Santa Anita Jan. 2, Areyoutalkintome. California Sprint Championship winner Green Team is rounding into form for trainer Jeff Bonde as well. Fellow Florida-bred My Cousin Matt, who finished third to champion sprinter Speightstown in the Breeders' Cup Sprint (gr. I) Oct. 30 but has disappointed thus far in California, is another strong contender.
