Moscow Burning Named California Horse of the Year

Moscow Burning was named California-bred Horse of the Year, top grass horse, and older female of 2004 the night of Feb. 7 at the California Thoroughbred Breeders Association annual awards dinner at the Hilton San Diego Resort.

Following are the winners:
MOSCOW BURNING (Moscow Ballet--Burning Desire, by Mr. Leader). Bred by Harris Farms and Ken Maddy Trust. She won the Sheepshead Bay Handicap (gr. IIT) and the Fran's Valentine Stakes.

Older Male – McCANN'S MOJAVE (Memo--Joni U. Bar, Nordic Prince). Bred by Alix Hunt and Mike Willman. He won the Potrero Grande Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. II) and the Sensational Star Handicap.

3-Year-Old Male – COZY GUY (Alphabet Soup--Lambent, by Rambo Dancer). Bred by John Zamora. He won the California Cup Classic.

3-Year-Old Female – YEARLY REPORT (General Meeting--Fiscal Year, by Half a Year). Bred by John and Betty Mabee. She won the Delaware Oaks (gr. II), Black-Eyed Susan Stakes (gr. II), Santa Ynez Stakes (gr. II), Melair Stakes, and the Stonerside Stakes.

2-Year-Old Male – TEXCESS (In Excess--Danish Alamode, by Regal Classic). Bred by Ron Gomez. He won the Boyd Gaming's Delta Jackpot Stakes and the California Cup Juvenile.

2-Year-Old Female – MEMORETTE (Memo--Forever Fondre, by Shahrastani). Bred by Oak Tree Farm. She won the California Breeders' Champion Stakes.

Sprinters – BEAR FAN (Pine Bluff--Shezalong, by Shimatoree). Bred by Wesley Ward. She won the Barbara Fritchie (gr.II), Vagrancy (gr. II), and Genuine Risk (gr. II) Handicaps and the Irish O'Brien Stakes.
