Shadow Cast Seeks 3rd Straight in Bayou BC

(from Fair Grounds report)
Shadow Cast chases her third consecutive stakes victory when she lines up against seven fillies and mares over the Stall-Wilson turf course in Saturday's $125,000 Bayou Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. IIIT) at Fair Grounds.

A 4-year-old daughter of Smart Strike, Shadow Cast has made her career over the last two seasons at Fair Grounds, enjoying success that is typical of her connections – trainer Neil Howard and owner/breeder William Farish Jr. The consistent chestnut owns four wins from seven local starts, which includes three stakes triumphs, and has never finished off the board at the New Orleans oval.

The versatile Shadow Cast enters off a pair of stakes wins in her only local starts at the meet – the Pago Hop Stakes on turf in December and the Truly Bound Handicap last month on the dirt.

Last season, Shadow Cast captured the Silverbulletday Stakes (gr. II) at Fair Grounds before finishing third in the Fair Grounds Oaks (gr. II). She looks for her first graded stakes win on turf in the Bayou.

Regular rider Robby Albarado will be aboard Shadow Cast, who carries high weight of 119 pounds and is the 3-1 morning-line favorite.

Shadow Cast's main rival could be the Steve Asmussen-trained Sister Swank. A graded winner in her own right, Sister Swank has knocked heads with Shadow Cast three times in their young careers, running third in both the Silverbulletday and the Pago Hop.

Prior to the Pago Hop, Sister Swank defeated Shadow Cast at Keeneland in the Valley View (gr. III) in October. With a brief freshening and a series of solid works heading into Saturday, the Skip Away filly looks primed for a big effort.

Jockey Donnie Meche will ride Sister Swank, who will break from the rail as the early second choice at 7-2.
