Tattersalls Amends October Yearling Sales Schedule

Tattersalls, the premier bloodstock auctioneers in Europe, have made two significant changes to the October Yearling Sales held at Newmarket, England this year.

The first is to drop the select portion of the October Yearling Sale Part One, instead cataloguing the entire sale in alphabetical order by dams. The sale is tentatively scheduled for Oct. 3 or Oct. 4 through Oct. 7.

Last year, when October Part One replaced the Houghton Sale and the select part of the old October Sale, the first two days were dubbed "select," but this has now been changed to encourage buyers to stay for the duration.

Tattersalls is limiting October Part One to 750 yearlings, compareid with 791 in 2004, and more significantly restricting October Part Two (Oct. 10-15) to 1,000 yearlings, cmompared with 1,302 last year.

Jimmy George of Tattersalls commented: "We will be holding an October Yearling Sale Part Three over one or two days (Oct. 28-29) after the Autumn Horses In Training Sale (Oct. 24-27) until the number of foals born each year decreases.

"Having nearly 2,100 yearlings over October Part One & Two last year was too much and, while we don't particularly want a third yearling sale, it is something we can live with for the next few years."
