As a part of TVG's commitment to responsible wagering, TVG announced Monday that it has created the AWARE Program Responsible Wagering Community Grants. The financial grants, which will be made quarterly to organizations in states where TVG offers its services, will be administered by the Winners Federation, the national organization of addictions counselors in the horse racing industry.
"The Responsible Wagering Community Grants are a logical extension of our AWARE responsible wagering program," said BJ Cosson, vice president of operations and customer relations for TVG. "We see these grants as an important way of building awareness of responsible wagering in the communities we serve."
The Responsible Wagering Community Grants, which will be limited to activities related to pari-mutuel wagering, will recognize efforts provided by credentialed counselors in four areas: awareness, prevention, training, and treatment.
"We are very pleased to be asked to administer the AWARE Program Responsible Wagering Community Grants," said Don Clippinger, Winners Federation executive director. "We see these as recognizing good work by community groups in encouraging responsible wagering, and we at the Winners Federation hope that they will prove to be a prototype for other organizations within the pari-mutuel industry."
The first grants will be made in the spring of 2005.
