Ipi Tombe's First Foal Is a Sadler's Wells' Colt

International champion Ipi Tombe produced her first foal, a colt by Sadler's Wells, Feb. 25 at John and Lady Carolyn Warren's Highclere Stud in Berks County in England for owners Barry Weisbord and Richard Santulli. Ipi Tombe, bred in Zimbabwe and a champion in South Africa and Dubai, was bought by the two men through James Delahooke at the 2004 Tattersalls December mare sale for a sale-topping 850,000 guineas ($1.6 million). She was consigned by Team Valor and WinStar Farm.

Ipi Tombe (Manshood--Carnet de Danse, by Dance in Time) won 12 races and was second twice from 14 career starts for earnings of $1,529,799. She raced once in the United States, winning the Locust Grove Handicap (gr. IIIT) at Churchill Downs in the summer of 2003, before being retired because of a leg injury. She is booked to English stallion Pivotal, a Northern Dancer-line son of Polar Falcon who stands at Cheveley Park Stud near Newmarket. On last year's English/Irish sires list, Pivotal ranked third on the general list and second on the 2-year-olds list.
