Danehill Sons Sire First Three in Coolmore Classic

It was somehow appropriate that Danehill sons sired the first three home in the Coolmore sponsored group I in Sydney, Australia March 5.

Arrowfield's Danzero collected his second group I success in seven days as Danni Martine rushed home for an upset victory in the $600,000 (Australian funds) Coolmore Classic (Aust-I) for distaffers at Rosehill. The 4-year-old filly ran the 1,500 meters in 1:29.52 on a damp track.

Forum Floozie was a length away second and three-quarters of a length ahead of Johan's Toy. The minor place-getters were by Danasinga and the deceased Johan Cruyff.

Seven days earlier, Danzero son Jymcarew won the final running of the Canterbury Guineas (Aust-I). Also Feb 26, the Dane's white-hot sire son, Redoute's Choice, supplied three of the four winners in group juvenile races nationally including the Blue Diamond (Aust-I).

Redoute's Choice, another Dane on the Arrowfield roster, supplied the heavy Coolmore favorite, Lotteria. But the previously unbeaten 3-year-old could not accelerate in the stretch to finish sixth.

Danni Martine (25-1) had won three races and $86,750 from seven Starts for breeders Senga Bissett and Ivan Woodford-Smith before their biggest day at the races yielded $390,000. Darren Beadman rode the Guy Walter barn member patiently from the outside gate of 16.

Around a year earlier the filly made national headlines when winched to safety from a swamp.
