Champion Sweet Catomine Among Ashland Stakes Nominees

Sweet Catomine, last year's champion 2-year-old filly, tops the list of 68 fillies nominated for Keeneland's $500,000, Ashland Stakes (gr. I). The race will be run at 1 1/16 miles April 9, nearly a month before the Kentucky Oaks.

Sweet Catomine won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (gr. I) last year and the Santa Ysabel Stakes (gr. III) in her first start at three for trainer Julio Canani.

Other leading contenders include Sharp Lisa, winner of the Las Virgenes Stakes (gr. I) and runner-up in last fall's Darley Alcibiades Stakes (gr. II) for trainer Doug O'Neill, and Sis City, who won the Davona Dale Stakes (gr. II) for Richard Dutrow, Jr.

Letgomyecho and Littlemoneydown, the 1-2 finishers in the Stonerside Forward Gal Stakes (gr. II), and the 2-3 finishers in the Bonnie Miss Stakes (gr. II)-In the Gold and Aspen Tree-have been nominated, along with Maddalena, winner of the Old Hat Stakes (gr. III).

Runway Model, who won the Darley Alcibiades, is also among the nominees, as are the 1-2-3 finishers in the Silverbulletday Stakes (gr. III) -- Summerly, Eyes on Eddy and Enduring Will; Arizona Oaks winner She Sings; Amazing Buy, winner of the Wide Country Stakes and Busher Stakes; and Valdale Stakes winner Brett's Favrette.
