Proud Accolade Figures to Rushaway

Padua Stables' Proud Accolade, winner of the seven-furlong Hutcheson Stakes (gr. II) earlier this year, seeks to get back on track after overcoming an illness in Saturday's $100,000 Rushaway Stakes at Turfway Park. The 1 1/16-mile race is part of Lane's End Stakes (gr. II) day at the northern Kentucky track.

Proud Accolade, a grade I winner at 2 after knocking down the Champagne Stakes, missed his next scheduled start in the March 12 Louisiana Derby (gr. II) according to trainer Todd Pletcher. A son of Yes It's True, out of the Septieme Ciel mare Proud Ciel, Proud Accolade fired off a 1:00 five furlong work last Sunday at Palm Meadows Training Center.

While a standout in class, Proud Accolade will be attempting to win his first race around two turns. At 2 he ran sixth in the Bessemer Trust Breeders' Cup Juvenile (gr. I) and fifth in the Hollywood Futurity (gr. I). He'll also be facing 11 rivals.

Rivals of note include William Callis' Cat Shaker, stakes-placed twice over the local surface; Ro Parra's Mad Adam, a recent fourth behind Lane's End entrant Andromeda's Hero in the Sam F. Davis Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs; Paraneck Stable's Daddy Joe, a $900,000 sale 2-year-old and winner at Aqueduct and Laurel this winter; and recent Gulfstream Park maiden winner Pinpoint.
