Kentucky Oaks Contenders Hit Track

As Kentucky Oaks (gr. I) day draws closer, a number of 3-year-old fillies hit the Churchill Downs oval over the weekend in advance of the May 6 race.

Stonerside Beaumont Stakes (gr. III) winner In the Gold, trained by Nick Zito for Live Oak Plantation, galloped April 23 at Keeneland with exercise rider Jorge Abreu up.

Runway Model, trained by Bernie Flint for Naveed Chowhan, galloped two miles after recording a bullet half-mile in :47 1/5 April 21.

Sis City, winner of the Ashland (gr. I) and Davona Dale (gr. III) Stakes, worked six furlongs after the renovation break. Exercise rider Michelle Nevin was up as the daughter of Slew City Slew covered the distance over a fast track in 1:14.40, the third-fastest move of five at that distance.

Trainer Richard Dutrow said Sis City would walk Monday, jog Tuesday, and then gallop up to her next breeze, which would occur Saturday, Sunday, or Monday.

The Steve Asmussen-trained Summerly, winner of the Fair Grounds Oaks (gr. II) galloped with exercise rider Carmen Rojas up.

In other Oaks-related news, according to a release from Churchill Downs, Ian Wilkes said Buckram Oak Farm's Aspen Tree, the Carl Nafzger-trainer runner-up in the Stonerside Beaumont Stakes would be pointed toward the $150,000 La Troienne (gr. III) May 5 instead of the Kentucky Oaks.
