Champion Argentine Mare to Run in Gamely

(from Hollywood Park notes)
Halo Ola, champion older female in Argentina last year, will make her United States debut in the $350,000 Gamely Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. IT) at Hollywood Park on May 30, trainer Luis Seglin announced on Thursday.

"She is ready," Seglin said of the 5-year-old mare he received two months ago. "I think she is better on the turf than Miss Loren."

The Argentine-born Seglin made headlines during the past year with Argentine import Miss Loren, winning the Clement Hirsch Handicap (gr. II) at Del Mar and the Santa Maria Handicap (gr. I) at Santa Anita with her before she was sold privately.

Miss Loren campaigned for Juan Carlos Bago's Llers Corp., the same ownership as Halo Ola. The Southern Halo homebred won the Copa de Plata Stakes (Arg-I) in December and finished third to males in the Miguel A. Martinez de Hoz Stakes on Feb. 12 in her last start.

Halo Ola has won five of 12 starts, including four-for-eight on turf. Jose Valdivia, Jr. has the call in the 1 1/8-mile Gamely.

Other probable starters include 2004 runner-up Megahertz (Alex Solis), Amorama (Rene Douglas), Makeup Artist (Victor Espinoza), Nadeszhda (Julio Garcia) and Uraib.
