Eight Fillies Set for Saturday's Lone Star Oaks

A field of eight 3-year-old fillies has been drawn for Saturday's $100,000 Lone Star Oaks at 1 1/16 miles on turf.

Trained by Cole Norman for Turf Express and Robert Beck, Victory Lap heads the field with four straight victories on turf from five starts this year. The daughter of Touch Gold enters the Oaks off a half-length score in the mile Chapel Belle Stakes at Louisiana Downs May 28. The Chapel Belle victory and a May 7 allowance race win at Lone Star came while under the care of Norman. She was previously campaigned on the East Coast by Rusty Arnold and Wesley Ward.

"This filly is something else," Norman said. "She always seems to get herself into so much trouble, but she has that ability to overcome it. If she gets a clean trip Saturday, I think we'll be tough.

"I was a little concerned because she had a little lung infection after her last start and she missed some training. But she's scoped clean and the crud appears to be gone. I really liked her workout the other day (a six-furlong breeze in 1:15 2/5 at Louisiana Downs on Saturday)."

Bred in Kentucky by G. Watts Humphrey Jr. and Dedman and Dedman, Victory Lap will break from post two under jockey Jamie Theriot, who rode her to a three-quarters of a length victory in that May 7 allowance race. The filly's other two victories this year came at 1 1/16 miles on turf at Gulfstream Park.

Victory Lap will face competition from Pamela Halter's Airizon, who ran third in the 1 1/16-mile Ocala Breeders' Sales Championship Stakes March 26. Trained by John Locke, the daughter of Boston Harbor enters the race off a second-place effort to Hasta La Quista in a 7 1/2-furlong allowance race June 17 at Lone Star in her first start on turf.

Bred by Joseph Iantosca in Kentucky, Airizon will break from post four under regular rider Quincy Hamilton.

Another to watch will be Thomas Orr's Sharon Rae, trained by Joe Offolter. She enters Saturday's race off two straight Lone Star wins, the latter on turf June 9. The daughter of Service Stripe has drawn post five. Jockey Monte Berry has the call.

Millennium Farms' Mybrowneyedgal, who finished third behind runner-up Victory Lap in that June 17 allowance race, will break from post six under jockey Roman Chapa. Trained by Steve Asmussen, the daughter of El Prado finished fourth in the March 12 Sam Houston Oaks at Sam Houston Race Park.
