Andromeda's Hero Works Toward Travers

Trainer Nick Zito had Andromeda's Hero on the track Thursday morning at Saratoga Race Course working toward a start in the Aug. 27 Travers (gr. I). With exercise rider Jorge Abreu, Andomeda's Hero breezed five furlongs on the Saratoga main track in 1:02.

"We just wanted to stretch out his legs," Zito said. "Everything went smooth and he looked out there."

The work marked the first time the son of Fusaichi Pegasus  had worked since finishing third to Flower Alley in the July 30 Jim Dandy (gr. II).

Zito said he would nominate Andromeda's Hero, and perhaps Haskell Invitationa (gr. I) runner-up Sun King, for the Travers. Nominations for the Travers close on Saturday.

If Zito does nominate Sun King, who is also stabled at Saratoga, it is unlikely the Tracy Farmer-owned colt will run.

"I think three weeks to come back running is too soon for this horse," Zito said. "Still, I'm going to keep my options open and see what happens."

Zito won the Travers last year with Belmont Stakes (gr. I) winner Birdstone.
