"Proud Accolade was one of the best of his generation and won one of the most important sire making stakes, in the Champagne," Satish Sanan said in a release. "He went on at three to win the grade II Hutcheson, another race noted for producing sires. With the excellent success his sire had here, and his pedigree being a complete outcross for Mr. Prospector and Northern Dancer, we are very excited to bring him to Florida."
Proud Accolade, who won the Champagne Stakes (gr. I) last year at two and the Hutcheson Stakes (gr. II) earlier this year, has been retired and will stand in 2006 at Satish Sanan's Padua Stables near Summerfield, Fla.The fee for the son of former Padua stallion Yes It's True out of the Septieme Ciel mare Proud Ciel will be $5,000."We had been planning on retiring him at the end of the year," Satish Sanan's daughter, Nadia Sanan Briggs, said. "There was a void here with his sire moving to Kentucky. There is a strong following for Proud Accolade and he will get a tremendous response."Yes It's True stood his first four seasons at Padua and was moved this season to Three Chimneys Farm. Proud Accolade is from his first crop. The second-leading freshman sire of 2004 by progeny earnings, Yes It's True fee was raised from $10,000 to $25,000 this year.Proud Accolade has already arrived at the farm, Sanan Briggs said.Purchased by Padua at the 2004 Ocala Breeders' Sales Co.'s March auction of 2-year-olds in training for $450,000, Proud Accolade won his first three starts, breaking his maiden and winning an allowance race at Saratoga before beating Afleet Alex in the Champagne at Belmont. He finished his juvenile campaign by running sixth in the Bessemer Trust Breeders' Cup Juvenile (gr. I) and fifth in the Hollywood Futurity (gr. I).Proud Accolade won the Hutcheson in his first start of 2005 but has hit the board only once in four subsequent races. In his last start, he ran third in the Dwyer (gr. II) behind Roman Ruler and Flower Alley.Trained by Todd Pletcher, he retires with four wins in 10 starts and earnings of $476,630.
