Exceller Fund Provides New Avenue for Finger Lakes Horse Adoption

Edited news release

New York area residents have a new place to look for Thoroughbreds who can be retrained as hunter/jumper, dressage and pleasure horses. The Exceller Fund now hosts free listings for trainers and owners of racehorses at and near the Finger Lakes Race Track. The listings can be accessed directly at http://exforg.proboards32.com/index.cgi or via The Exceller Fund's Web site in the What's New section at http://www.excellerfund.org/.

These listings are patterned after the type of services CANTER (http://www.canterusa.org/) provides. For various logistical reasons, CANTER is unable to start a chapter in the New York area in the near future, so with their consent, The Exceller Fund has stepped in to help to fill this need.

The Exceller Fund listings allow trainers and owners, who are not in an immediate need to move a horse out, to find a private buyer for a horse, usually at a greater price than the common auctions in the area. These listings complement the Finger Lakes Race Track Adoption Program, which seeks to find new homes for horses in more immediate need of being moved out. Both programs aim to re-home horses whose days as a racehorse are over due to age, injury, or inability to be competitive, yet still provide a safe future for the horse.
