New York Turf Writers Auction Raises $18,000

A silent auction at the New York Turf Writers Association's 82nd annual awards dinner and dance on Monday raised just over $18,000 for the benefit of Thoroughbred charities.

Stallion seasons to Catienus, Freud and Say Florida Sandy were sold, along with Thoroughbred artwork, a Travers box and tickets to the Breeders' Cup.

Stallion seasons to Best of Luck, Gold Token, Kelly Kip, Mayakovsky, Prime Timber, Rizzi and Strategic Mission will be available for bidding on the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation website, , beginning on Aug. 29 until Sept. 2 at 5 p.m.

Proceeds from the auction will benefit the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation, Belmont Child Care Association, the Backstretch Employee Assistance Team and other Thoroughbred charities supported by the NYTWA.

Over 160 people attended the NYTWA dinner at the Gideon Putnam Hotel in Saratoga Springs. Awards for 2004 were given to Team Smarty Jones, Ghostzapper, Nick Zito, John Hettinger, Sackatoga Stable, John Velazquez, Todd Pletcher, Marylou Whitney, Ken and Sarah Ramsey, John Servis and John Imbriale.
