"Heckle could run a hole in the wind," Campbell said. "He was a most attractive yearling, looked like speed, and produced it early in his 2-year-old year. Any time you equal a Keeneland track record that has stood for 37 years at the distance of 4 1/2 furlongs...you scorch the earth."Heckle is a half-brother to two stakes winners, including grade I winner Spectacular Tide, and is out of the Spectacular Bid mare Bid Me Adieu. Next dam is a half-sister to champion Life's Magic. Heckle's fee will be announced later.
Graded stakes winner Heckle has been bought by Dennis Narlinger's JMJ Racing and the partnership of Becky Thomas and Lewis Lakin from Dogwood Stable (Cot Campbell, president) for stallion duty. A 4-year-old son of Hennessy, Heckle will stand in 2006 at Thomas and Lakin's Sequel Stallions near Ocala, Fla.As a 2-year-old, Heckle broke his maiden at Keeneland by 12 1/2 lengths in :51.04 for 4 1/2 furlongs and equaled a 37-year-old track record in the process. Two races later, he won the Tremont Stakes (gr. III) at Belmont Park.Heckle retired with three wins and two seconds in 10 starts and earnings of $155,862 while trained by Todd Pletcher.
