Saratoga Race Course's streak of consecutive days with at least 10,000 in attendance was halted at 250 Wednesday afternoon.Rain from the remnants of Hurricane Katrina forced the cancellation of one steeplechase allowance race and the rest of the turf races on the day, and forced the re-scheduling of the 64th running of the New York Turf Writers Cup Handicap Steeplechase (NSA-I). That race will now be run as Friday's first race. The main track was sloppy throughout the day.Wednesday's attendance was 7,734. The day began under cloudy skies replaced by showers midway through the program. Fans were given free general admission, and clubhouse admission was reduced to $2.
The last time Saratoga's attendance dipped below 10,000 was on September 3, 1998, when 9,011 attended the races at the Spa.
