Eddie Martin Injured in Ellis Park Spill

(from Ellis Park report)
Jockey Eddie Martin Jr. was transported to St. Mary's Hospital in Evansville, Ind., for medical examination after being unseated by his mount during Monday's eighth race at Ellis Park in Henderson, Ky.

Martin was complaining of shoulder pain following the spill and was taken off the remainder of his mounts for the day.

Martin was aboard the Greg Foley-trained Mazel Dancer in a starter allowance for older fillies and mares. While vying for the lead on the rail near the sixteenth pole, Mazel Dancer ducked in suddenly, hit the inner rail, and unseated Martin.

Martin walked away from the spill on his own power. However, after he complained of shoulder pain, paramedics recommended further examination at St. Mary's.

His mount, Mazel Dancer, was not seriously injured in the spill.

Through Sept. 4, Martin was fourth in the Ellis Park jockey standings with 26 wins from 136 mounts.

Ellis Park closes its 41-day meet today.
