Canadian Champ Added Edge Retired

Edited press release
Team Valor and Robert Wilson's multiple grade III winner Added Edge, who went unbeaten in four starts when voted champion 2-year-old colt in Canada, has been retired from racing. Stud plans have not been determined.

The 5-year-old son of Smart Strike won the Nashua Stakes (gr. III) at Aqueduct during his championship season and took the Razorback Handicap (gr. III) in his final career start. He retired with eight wins, including six stakes, from 19 starts and earnings of $552,326 while being trained by Dale Romans, Mark Casse, and Ralph Nicks throughout his career..

Team Valor president Barry Irwin said that after Added Edge chipped both knees in the 2003 Holy Bull Stakes (gr. III), in which he was favored over eventual Kentucky Derby (gr. I) winner Funny Cide, "We always considered him the gamest runner in our barn to come back and win stakes after those injuries."

Added Edge was foaled by the $211,577 stakes winner Sweet Nostalgia, who also produced the $252,151 stakes winner Gold Memory.
