Lost in the Fog on Rail for Speed Handicap

(from Bay Meadows report)
The undefeated sprint star Lost in the Fog drew post position one Wednesday when entries were taken for the $100,000 Bay Meadows Speed Handicap.

The Bay Meadows Speed Handicap, a six-furlong race for 3-year-olds and up, and the $125,000 Bay Meadows Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. IIIT), a nine-furlong turf contest for 3-year-olds and up, will highlight a big 10-race program Saturday.

"I don't look at it as a negative," said trainer Greg Gilchrist of Lost in the Fog's inside draw. "He's no stranger to the rail. He's been there before. It just means you have to run a little faster earlier in the race."

Lost in the Fog, the 123-pound high weight in a field of seven, goes into the Bay Meadows Speed Handicap with a perfect 9-for-9 record. The 3-year-old colt –who is using the race a prep for the $1 million TVG Breeders' Cup Sprint (gr. I) at Belmont Park in New York on Oct. 29-– has won eight stakes, including the King's Bishop (gr. I) at Saratoga in his most recent outing. He's 1-5 on the morning line.

The Florida-bred son of Lost Soldier has won his races by an average of 6 1/2 lengths and has set track records at Turf Paradise (running 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:13.55) and Golden Gate Fields (six furlongs in 1:07.32). Purchased as a 2-year-old for $140,000 by owner Harry J. Aleo of San Francisco, Lost in the Fog has earned $834,075.
