Grade II Winner Woke Up Dreamin Retired

Woke Up Dreamin, a two-time grade II winner who was enjoying his best season yet, was retired from racing following an unplaced effort in the Oct. 1 Vosburgh Stakes (gr. I) at Belmont Park.

"He's got feet problems," said owner Mike Pegram about the Bob Baffert trainee. "We're very disappointed, but Bobby figured it best to retire him."

Bred in Kentucky by Louis and Patrice Wolfson's Harbor View Farm, Woke Up Dreamin captured the True North Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. II) at Belmont and the Smile Sprint Handicap (gr. II) at Calder Race Course in his last two starts. The son of Holy Bull won two earlier races at Santa Anita this year, including an allowance at six furlongs in 1:08.34.

Five-year-old Woke Up Dreamin, who came out of the True North with a quarter crack, retired with six wins from 16 starts and earnings of $578,475 in four years of racing. Pegram bought him for $130,000 at the 2001 Keeneland September yearling sale from John Williams, agent. Woke Up Dreamin's dam, Dreamlike (by Storm Cat), is out two-time grass champion Flawlessly.

Breeding plans are undecided.
