Migliore to Miss Breeders' Cup After Breaking Leg

Jockey Richard Migliore, scheduled to ride Artie Schiller in the NetJets Breeders' Cup Mile (gr. IT), sustained a broken leg in a paddock accident at Belmont Park Thursday.

Migliore was aboard Tactical Rhythm prior to the fourth race when another horse in the race, Trippi's Storm, broke loose and was headed toward Tactical Rhythm. As he tried to dismount, Migliore caught his left ankle in the stirrup, leading to the injury.

Migliore said it was a clean break and he will likely return to the saddle by Dec. 1.

It was the second straight year that Migliore was injured prior to the Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships. On the day before the 2004 Cup at Lone Star Park, Migliore injured his wrist at Belmont Park but went ahead and rode Artie Schiller to a 12th-place finish as the favorite in the Mile. It was subsequently discovered that Migliore had broken his wrist.
