Arapahoe Park plans to increase its number of live dates by two to 39 in 2006, track officials announced Monday. Racing next year will be conducted for the first full meeting under the new ownership of BLB Investors, LLC. The additional dates are subject to approval from the Colorado Division of Racing Events. The Connecticut-based BLB Investors acquired Arapahoe Park, four other Colorado based properties and the Lincoln Park Greyhound facility in Rhode Island in July.
"Since their arrival in Colorado, BLB has been very vocal in their commitment to live racing," said Arapahoe Park general manager Bruce Seymore. "We met with the Colorado Horse Racing Association on Wednesday and they were very supportive of expanded dates. The additional two dates translates into an extra week of live racing and allows us to card racing through Labor Day."In 2005, live racing at Arapahoe was conducted on a three day per week schedule, commencing on June 10, Belmont Stakes Day. Mondays would replace Fridays as a live racing day under the new schedule, with a holiday program on July 4, a Tuesday. 'We moved our Fridays to Mondays to expand our presence in the simulcast market,' said Sean Beirne, vice president of racing and simulcasting.
